General Remarks

The territory of Algeria was annexed by France in 1830 and remained French territory until 1962 when the independence was granted.

The economy of the country is predominantly agricultural, essentially cereals, vegetables, citrus fruits and dates; petroleum and natural gas constitute a large percentage of the exports.
