Legal Basis
The domain names under country code top-level .no are regulated by the Domain Name Regulations of August 1, 2003. Additionally, a set of regulations denoted Domain Name Policy has been drawn up by Norid, the relevant national authority for administration of domain names in Norway.
Filing
Country code top-level domain name: .no
Sub-domains: .fhs.no; .vgs.no; .gs[fylke].no; .fylkesbibl.no; .folkebibl.no; .museum.no; .idrett.no; .priv.no
Applicant: legal entities. Individuals may only apply for .priv.no
Restriction as to nationality: none.
Local presence: required. The registrant must be of an organizational structure registered in the Norwegian Companies Register, and hold a postal address in Norway.
Domestic trademark right: not required for obtaining domain name registration.
Domain name can be registered as a trademark: yes.
Registration, Protection
Duration: one year.
Renewal/maintenance: one year, renewable.
Dispute about ownership: to be brought before the court or a dispute resolution body. The latter arrangement applies to domains registered after October 1, 2003.
Uniform dispute resolution procedure: none, but there is a dispute resolution procedure provided by Norid.
