The organization, administration and management of the ".ro" top-level domain is performed by the National Institute for Research in Informatics, according to the provisions of the Government Decision No. 1621 from December 23rd, 2003 on the organization and functioning of the National Institute for Research in Informatics - ICI Bucharest, completed by the Emergency Ordinance No. 22 of March 11, 2009, Article 2 (A) (1) (o) and provides that the scope of the Institute's activity includes performing the registry function for domain names ".ro".

Country code top-level domain name: .ro 

Sub-domains: .com.ro for businesses, firms, products and services of a commercial nature; .org.ro for not-for-profit organizations, social organizations, civil groups; .tm.ro for trademarks only. To register under the tm.ro sub-domain, proof of a Romanian trademark (OSIM, or another trademark organization) must be submitted; .store.ro for shops, stores or other business offering goods to purchase; .info.ro for information providers; .nom.ro for those individuals wishing their own name as a domain name; .nt.ro for entities emphasizing data networking activities, especially regarding the Internet network; .firm.ro for firms; .www.ro for entities emphasizing activities related to the World Wide Web; .arts.ro for entities emphasizing cultural activities; .rec.ro for entities emphasizing recreation and entertainment activities. Note: domain names containing special Romanian characters are also available for registration.

Domestic trademark right: not required for obtaining domain name registration, except for tm.ro

Duration: as of March 1, 2018, RoTLD has introduced the annual maintenance and registration renewal system for .ro domain names. These domain names shall be registered or renewed for a limited period of time, minimum one year and maximum ten years. 

Renewal/maintenance: in order to renew the right-to-use, holders of the domain names must pay equivalent of the annual maintenance service covering the desired period of time.
