There is no specific legislation although some regulations on the organization and management of country code top-level domain names do exist. The Trademark Law also provides some regulations regarding famous marks used by third parties as a domain name.

Applicant: individuals and legal entities.
Restriction as to nationality: none.
Local presence: not required.
Domestic trademark right: not required for obtaining domain name registration.

Duration: one year.
Renewal/maintenance: one year, renewable.
Dispute about ownership: to be brought before the court or Arbitrator. The director of NIC.ni has the legal authority to cancel domain names in conflict with famous marks.
