Legal Basis
There is no specific legislation although some regulations on the organization and management of country code top-level domain names do exist.
Filing
Country code top-level domain name: .bs
Sub-domains: .com.bs; .edu.bs; .net.bs; .org.bs; .gov.bs
Applicant: individuals and legal entities.
Restriction as to nationality: none.
Local presence: not required.
Domestic trademark right: not required for obtaining domain name registration.
Domain name can be registered as a trademark: yes.
Registration, Protection
Duration: one to two years.
Renewal/maintenance: one to three years, renewable.
Note: for second-level domain names the duration is two years, with an annual renewal fee beginning from the third year. For third-level domain names the duration is one year, with an annual renewal fee beginning from the second year.
Dispute about ownership: to be brought before the Management of BSNIC.
Uniform dispute resolution procedure: available (ICANN UDRP model) before WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center.
Other dispute providers: CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution; National Arbitration Forum; Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Center.
Authority name: The Bahamas Network Information Centre (BSNIC), which is administered by the University of The Bahamas.
