Protection

Registration is not required for owners of an original work. Copyright protection is automatic and free from the moment a work is created. However, registration is possible and can help avoid, or at least simplify, ownership disputes.  

Duration: during the lifetime of the author, plus 50 years after his death; for cinematographic and photographic works and works created by a company or organization the term is 50 years after first publication.
