Applicant: the creator or agent. Appointment of agent must be by prescribed form.

Filing requirements for an application (to be sent to resident agent):
1. Applicant’s name, address, nationality and residence. Where the applicant is the creator that must be stated and if the applicant is not, then the basis for the applicant’s right to the registration of the layout design must be stated;
2. A brief and precise designation of the layout design, including the matter to which it relates and the field to which the article in which it is intended to be incorporated relates.

Note: where the application was accompanied by a copy of the layout design, the applicant shall file a drawing thereof within one month.

Examination: the Registrar shall examine whether the application fulfills the appropriate sections of the Act and Regulations and may invite the applicant to make corrections.

Registration: the Registrar will then advise the applicant of the grant or refusal of the application and invite the successful applicant to pay the prescribed fees within one month of the date of notification. 

Protection: available, whether or not the integrated circuit, which incorporates the protected layout design is itself incorporated in an article. 

Duration: protection terminates at the end of the tenth calendar year after the date of commencement of protection.

Infringement: reproducing, whether by incorporation in an integrated circuit or otherwise of the protected layout design in its entirety or in part, or importing, selling or otherwise distributing it for commercial purposes is unlawful without the authorization of the right holder.
