Foreign trade: China develops economic and trade relations with other countries in accordance with the basic principles of “independence and self-reliance” and “equality, mutual benefit and supplying each other’s needs”. At present, China has established trade relations with over 221 countries and regions. Exchange visits and friendly contacts with economic and trade circles of other countries have enlivened and become more frequent. In 2020, the total volume of China’s imports and exports was U.S.$ 4,970 billion.
With the introduction of a socialist market economy, China’s foreign trade is run by import and export corporations, enterprises and manufacturers under various forms of ownership under the guidance of the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, and the competent authorities of the various provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.
