Gaza is the name of the largest city in what is known as the Gaza Strip, a portion of the Palestinian territories (also comprising the West Bank of Jordan) which extends on the southern coastline of Israel on the Mediterranean Sea and northwestern borders of Israel. The Gaza Strip has common borders with Egypt on the west. Control over Gaza Strip was transferred to the Egyptians after the first Arab-Israeli War in 1948. It was occupied by Israel during the 1967 War. The Palestinians regained control over the Gaza Strip in 1994 under the Oslo Accord and the city of Gaza is presently the seat of the Palestinian National Authority.
Remarks on Intellectual Property Rights:
The Gaza Strip and the West Bank are new territories which are the result of the overall peace process in a very important part of the world, the Middle East. These territories are presently passing through a transitional period. Securing intellectual property rights through registration with both Registries (now open in the city of Gaza in the Gaza Strip and the city of Ramallah in the West Bank) is an important defensive step of one’s intellectual property as both areas have separate jurisdictions with regard to Industrial Property matters. Due to the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, the IP Office in Gaza has suspended all of its services until further notice.
