Romania’s economy is strongly globalized and integrated into the European Union market. The economy is characterized by a highly productive work.
The reforms in the 2000s (decade) and its 2007 accession to the European Union have led to an improved economic outlook. The country is a regional leader in multiple fields, such as agriculture, IT and motor vehicles production. Romania’s economic growth for 2023 was 3.5%, according to the European Commission (EC).
Exports have increased substantially in the past few years. Romania’s main exports are cars, software, clothing and textiles, industrial machinery, electrical and electronic equipment, metallurgic products( steel, aluminum), raw materials (timber, salt), pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, agricultural products (grains, corn, fruits, vegetables, flowers), refined petroleum.
GDP per capita PPP is projected to trend around U.S.$ 34,361 in 2024 and U.S.$ 35,598 in 2025.
Romania is a member of the European Union since January 1, 2007 and NATO since March 29, 2004.
