Most important agricultural and industrial products

Sugar, coffee, mangoes, bananas, sisal, cotton, cocoa, tobacco, rice. Minerals include copper, gold, silver, iron, antimony, tin, sulphur, coal, nickel, porphyry, gypsum and bauxite.

Haiti is located in the western part of the island of Hispaniola, the second-largest island of the Greater Antilles, situated between Cuba to the west and Puerto Rico to the east. It occupies approximately the western one-third of the island, while the Dominican Republic occupies the eastern two-thirds.

The population is predominantly of African descent. Haiti is also home to smaller communities of mixed-race, European, and Levantine (Arab) descent, including Haitians descended from Syrian, Lebanese, and Palestinian immigrants who settled in the country during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
