The Sultanate of Oman physically consists of three areas: a coastal plain, a range of mountains and a plateau. Oman’s neighbors are the Republic of Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Omanis have always been skilled seamen and they developed trading links with Africa and India which brought Oman to its period of greatest power and wealth in the 19th century. Oil is Oman’s primary wealth, but developments have taken place in industry, agriculture, public health, etc.
