For Trademarks, Designs and Models, the three Benelux countries Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg have come to a complete unification of their legislation in 1971. Through treaties, they have adopted uniform laws on Trademarks and on Designs or Models. Applications and registrations cover the three countries and it is impossible to split up this territorial unity. There is also a common Trademarks and Designs or Models administration.

On September 1, 2006, the new Benelux Convention on Intellectual Property (BCIP) entered into force in the three Benelux countries and replaced the Benelux Trademarks Office and the Benelux Designs Office by merging them into the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property.
