Liechtenstein is a sovereign Principality founded on a democratic and parliamentary basis, situated on the Upper Rhine between Austria and Switzerland. By the Treaty of March 29, 1923, between Liechtenstein and Switzerland, Liechtenstein became part of the Swiss customs area.
Liechtenstein is a member of the Union of Paris, an associate member of the European Free Trade Association (E.F.T.A.) and Liechtenstein has been a member of the European Economic Area (E.E.A.) since May 1, 1995.
